Maamor Jantan

About Maamor Jantan

Maamor Jantan was born in 1961 in Kulim, Kedah. He started as an apprentice machinist in Petaling Jaya during the early 1980′s. He then worked as an assistant curator with an art gallery in Kuala Lumpur where he was introduced to visual arts and its artists.

In 1984, Maamor Jantan got to know artist Khalil Ibrahim who later became his mentor. Under Khalil’s informal tutelage and companionship for more than a decade, they ventured into the wonderful world of art together. With his natural flair in watercolour, Maamor progressed rapidly and was soon one of the most notable young artists around.

His encounter with his ‘Cak Cibor’ series or dragonfly reflects the artist’s intimate attachment with nature. He joined the Malaysian Watercolour Society and participated in more than 70 exhibitions, locally and abroad. He attracts friends and supporters from all walks of life with his gentle and open manner.

He is currently a resident artist at the University of Malaya.
